I write Live in Portugal guides for foreigners who are trying to understand life here without getting lost in confusing forms, official wording, or outdated advice.
Why I write these guides
I have lived in Portugal for more than 6 years, so a lot of the topics on this site come from things I have had to understand myself. Immigration, AIMA, tax, healthcare, banking, renting, documents - none of it is impossible, but it can feel messy when you are new here.
My aim is simple: explain the process in plain English, show what usually matters in real life, and point readers back to official sources where they should double-check the final details.
Experience with Portuguese paperwork
Over the years, I have dealt with different parts of Portuguese administration, including residence paperwork, appointments, follow-ups, tax access, healthcare registration, banking, housing documents, and other day-to-day steps foreigners often face after moving here.
I try to write from that practical angle. Not just "what the rule says", but also what people usually need to prepare, what can slow things down, and what should be checked before taking action.
Topics I cover
On Live in Portugal, I mainly write about AIMA, residence cards, visas, NIF, NISS, Portal das Financas, SNS and utente numbers, banking, renting, utilities, work, study, and common mistakes foreigners can avoid.
How articles are researched
Articles are based on a mix of personal experience, official Portuguese sources, and practical checks from real situations foreigners often ask about. When rules or official pages change, I review and update guides where needed.
I do not want the articles to sound like legal documents. The goal is to make them useful before you visit an official website, book an appointment, send an email, or prepare your documents.
Corrections
Portugal's processes can change, and sometimes official information is updated without much notice. If you find something wrong or outdated, please use the contact page. You can also read the corrections policy and editorial policy to see how Live in Portugal handles updates.
